Biographie du candidat
Né à Lagos le 29 mars 1952, Bola Tinubu obtient son diplôme en comptabilité en 1979 à la Chicago State University. Par la suite, il revient au Nigeria et travaille en tant que comptable auprès de Mobil Nigeria. C’est seulement en 1992 qu’il s’engage en politique au sein du Social Democratic Party (SDP), et un an plus tard, il est élu sénateur de l’État de Lagos Ouest.
Lors du coup d’État de 1993, Sani Abacha dissout le Sénat et Tinubu rejoint alors le National Democratic Coalition (NDC), revendiquant un retour à la démocratie. Contraint à l’exil en 1994, il revient en 1998 à la suite de la mort de Abacha et est élu gouverneur de l’État de Lagos en 1999 sous l’étiquette du parti Alliance for Democracy. Après avoir quitté ses fonctions en 2007, il s’investit dans la formation du All Progressives Congress (APC), le parti au pouvoir depuis 2015. Bola Tinubu a gravi tous les échelons politiques au gré d’accusations de corruption, sans jamais être condamné.

Candidate’s biography
Born in Lagos on March 29, 1952, Bola Tinubu obtained a degree in accounting from Chicago State University in 1979. He later returned to Nigeria and worked as an accountant for Mobil Nigeria. It was not until 1992 that he entered politics with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and a year later he was elected Senator for Lagos West State. In the 1993 coup, dictator Sani Abacha dissolved the Senate and Tinubu joined the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), demanding a return to democracy. Forced into exile in 1994, he returned in 1998 following Abacha’s death and was elected governor of Lagos State in 1999 under the Alliance for Democracy party. After leaving office in 2007, he became involved in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party since 2015. Bola Tinubu rised through the political ranks on corruption charges, without ever being convicted.
