Biographie du candidat
Né en 1961 à Onitsha dans l’État de Anambra, Peter Obi est diplômé de philosophie à l’Université du Nigeria en 1984, puis rejoint la Lagos Business School. Il travaille par la suite dans le secteur financier en tant qu’homme d’affaire et trader et prend la direction de l’une des plus grandes banques du Nigeria.
En 2007, il devient gouverneur de l’État de Anambra sous l’étiquette du parti All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) et est réélu en 2010 pour un second mandat. Il quitte ses fonctions en 2014 dans le but de rejoindre le People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Lors de l’élection présidentielle de 2019, il est désigné comme vice-président aux côtés du candidat Atiku Abubakar. Ce dernier perd le scrutin face à Muhammadu Buhari. Obi quitte le PDP en mai 2022 et se déclare candidat à la présidentielle en tant que membre du Labour Party, un parti jusque-là peu visible dans l’arène politique.

Candidate’s biography
Born in 1961 in Onitsha, Anambra State, Peter Obi graduated in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria in 1984 and then joined the Lagos Business School. He later worked in the financial sector as a businessman and trader and became the head of one of the largest banks in Nigeria.
In 2007, he became governor of Anambra State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party and was re-elected in 2010 for a second term. He left office in 2014 in a bid to join the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In the 2019 presidential elections, he was nominated as vice president alongside candidate Atiku Abubakar, who lost the election to Muhammadu Buhari. Obi left the PDP in May 2022 and declared himself a presidential candidate as a member of the Labour Party, a party with little visibility in the political arena until then.
